Poland Program Highlights
- Families must be at least 25 and no older than 50 (Exceptions made based on age of child) (A 50-year-old can adopt, but must be open to a child with mild correctable conditions).
- Couples must be married for at least three years
- Single applicants not accepted
- No restrictions regarding children already in the home
- Children available from 6 years of age and up
- Children are matched through the Polish Central Authority
- Sibling groups sometimes available
- Adoptive parents must travel to Poland to adopt their child
- A person will be available for guidance through the process and interpreting
- Two visits are required. The first visit will be about one week in length; adoptive parents will meet the child referred. The second visit will be one-two weeks in length at this time the adoptive parents and child will go to court for the finalization of adoption in Poland.
- Accommodations are western-style hotel rooms or apartments
- Immunizations are not required for Poland travel
- Poland has a detailed list of document requirements and specific home study requirements
- The child is adopted in Poland and will be a U.S. citizen upon entry to the U.S.
- Re-adoption after arrival in the U.S. is encouraged
- Post Placement reports will be done by a social worker at 6 months and one years after the adoption
