     Adoption may be a good option and an abortion alternative for young ladies with an unwanted pregnancy. Adoption is nothing like what is shown in TV movies. Adoption has changed dramatically in the past few years – you have many choices!

     Maybe this is not your first pregnancy and friends and family have offered to help you and have not followed through. MAYBE YOU FEEL THAT YOU SIMPLY CANNOT PROVIDE THE NECESSARY CARE FOR A CHILD or if you have children, for another child. Maybe you are a student or are having financial difficulties. Whatever your situation, you don’t need to feel guilty. Many birth mothers with an unwanted pregnancy have chosen adoption as an abortion alternative and have been very happy with their decision. Others have chosen to single parent and that option may be an alternative, if you have sufficient family resources.

   DID YOU KNOW?  Some facilitators, adoptive parents, individuals and groups are offering birthmothers money and other financial incentives in exchange for placing their baby with or through them.  In many cases, this action is illegal.  Ask the person you're talking to "Are you licensed in _______ (your state)? Do you have a contact person at your Department of Human Services that I can verify that you are legitimate and that you have a license?" 

     DID YOU KNOW? Most facilitators, adoptive parents, lawyers and others have NO LEGAL OBLIGATION to maintain adoption records.  You may call back 1 or 2 years later only to learn that the phone has been disconnected and that no one knows where your records are.  LICENSED ADOPTION AGENCIES are regulated by their state and by their Department of Human Services.  Adoption records are kept permanently and, even if an agency closes, the state will know where you records are.  We highly recommend that you work ONLY WITH LICENSED ADOPTION AGENCIES.
