Financing
From the Executive Director,
When Debbie and I chose to adopt internationally in 1982, one of our
first obstacles was the adoption expenses that we needed. Well…we
sacrificed, worked extra hours and quickly set aside the adoptive fee
for our firstborn. Three years later, we were blessed by an aunt who
offered a “no interest” loan. Seven years later we were adoption-debt
free. We never once regretted the investment and or complained about
the cost. And “no,” we didn’t complain to the adoption agency that
relied on donations from others just to survive and to help keep our
fees lower.
Today, adoptive couples are blessed with a federal tax credit of
approximately $11,400 (as of 1/1/2007). Combining the federal tax
credit with state tax credits ($2,500 in Mississippi), savings, bank or
family loans, judicious use of credit cards and outside grants (there
are a few available) provides the resources necessary in most cases for financing and adoption.
I’ve never heard one set of adoptive parents complain about the cost…cost is a secondary factor to the joy of parenthood.
At New Beginnings International Children’s & Family Services we
strive to keep our fee scale as low as possible. If we can help with
other ideas or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to call.
