Endowments

New Beginnings International Children's & Family Services is a licensed, 501(c)3, non-profit, service ministry. This ministry to birth mothers and adoptive parents depends on contributions from individuals from across the United States.

What is an endowment?

Endow means “to make a grant of money providing for continuing support or maintenance.” An endowment can be established by anyone. It’s a wonderful way to allow you to become a sponsor of New Beginnings by helping to provide perpetual financial support for the New Beginnings ministry. It will provide you with present tax benefits and make annual contributions to NBICFS in your name or the name of a loved one for years to come.

How It Works.

An endowment is simply giving your gift of assets to an investment fund. The fund is invested to earn income each year and, as the principal grows, so does the income. The ever-growing income is used to support NBICFS, but the principal always remains invested in order to perpetuate the fund.

For example, let’s assume you would like to make an annual contribution to NBICFS of $1,000 out of the endowment after your lifetime. If the amount to be transferred from the endowment is set at 5% per year, the principal must be enough to generate the $1,000 at 5%. This doesn’t mean the endowment will only earn 5%, but instead means that only 5% will be transferred to the ministry on an annual basis. If the endowment makes more than 5% annually, the difference will be added to the principal.

To calculate the amount you need to donate to perpetuate your gift, divide the annual contribution gift amount ($1,000 in this case) by the amount called for in the spending policy (5%) and you get $20,000. Contributing just $20,000 can continue your $1,000 annual gift indefinitely.

If the value of the endowment fund grows beyond the spending amount, so does the income transferred annually to NBICFS. For example, if the endowment earns 10% in one year, 5% will be transferred to the ministry and 5% is reinvested in the fund. By the second year, the value of the fund is 5% higher ($21,000 in the previous case example) and the annual gift would increase to $1,050.

Who Handles The Endowment?

There are several options for managing an endowment to NBICFS:

  • You can contact an attorney and/or CPA to set up your own endowment and pay someone to manage it.
  • You can contact the Stewardship Department of the United Pentecostal Church to handle the endowment through the United Pentecostal Foundation.
  • You can contact the CREATE Foundation, a community-based foundation in Tupelo, Mississippi, to create an affiliated endowment in your name for NBICFS.
